How to Replace a $3,000/Month Marketing Team With 5 AI Tools (Solopreneur Stack)

Updated
3 min readView as Markdown

A solo operator on a marketing budget faces a brutal choice: pay \(3,000+/month for a small agency, hire one contractor at \)50-100/hour, or do it all yourself badly. A fourth option didn't exist two years ago: build the marketing function with AI tools and execute it yourself in 5-10 hours a week.

Here's the lean stack that does it.

1. Claude or Jasper for Content Strategy and Drafts — $20-39/month

The brain of the operation. Blog posts, ad copy, email sequences, social posts, landing page copy. A solo with the right prompts produces in two hours what an agency junior takes a week to draft.

2. Canva Pro for Design — $15/month

Magic Resize alone saves hours. The brand kit keeps everything consistent. AI features (Magic Design, Magic Write) produce first drafts of visuals from a brief.

3. Descript for Video Content — $24/month

Edit video by editing the transcript. Remove filler words automatically. Clone your voice for fixes. Generate clips for social. A YouTube cadence that took eight hours per video now takes two.

4. Make for Distribution and Automation — $9/month

When you publish, Make pushes it to Twitter, LinkedIn, your newsletter, Discord, anywhere else, automatically. Handles repurposing without you touching anything.

5. Beehiiv or Kit for Email — $0-49/month

Newsletter is still the highest-ROI marketing channel for solo operators. Beehiiv's free tier scales to 2,500 subscribers. Kit (formerly ConvertKit) starts at $9/month with stronger automation once you scale.

What This Stack Actually Replaces

A typical "fractional marketing" engagement at $3,000-5,000/month covers a strategist (1-2 hrs/week), a content writer (4-6 hrs/week), a designer (2-3 hrs/week), and basic coordination.

The five-tool stack above costs $70-130/month. You replace those hours with:

  • Strategy: 2 hrs/week (you and AI)

  • Content: 4 hrs/week (AI drafts, you edit)

  • Design: 1 hr/week (Canva templates plus AI)

  • Distribution: 0 hrs/week (Make handles it)

Total: roughly 7 hours per week.

What This Stack Does NOT Replace

Be honest about the limits. AI tools do not replace:

  • Genuine creative vision and brand voice

  • Customer research and interviews

  • Sales calls and relationship-building

  • Decisions about what to make

The tools handle execution. You still handle thinking, decisions, and the human work that matters.

Order to Build the Stack

If you're starting from zero:

  1. Week 1: Claude or Jasper. Start writing.

  2. Week 2: Add Canva Pro. Match content with visuals.

  3. Week 3: Add Beehiiv or Kit. Start the email list.

  4. Week 4: Add Make. Automate the distribution loop.

  5. Week 5+: Add Descript if video is part of your plan.

The mistake to avoid is signing up for all five on day one and using none properly. Add tools one at a time, and only after the previous one is actually delivering.
